Call for Artists: Exploring Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Society

We invite visual artists to participate in an artistic project centered on Cultural Heritage and it’s Significance in Contemporary Society.

This project provides a platform for artists to engage with, reinterpret, or comment on cultural heritage through artworks designed for wall display. Accepted formats include paintings, graphics, photographs, tapestries, and similar mediums.

Exhibition general information

The selected artworks will be showcased in an exhibition at UK Parobrod, in Belgrade, starting on February 21, 2025. The initiative aims to celebrate and reflect on the richness of cultural heritage in Serbia and worldwide.

The exhibition will feature contributions from two artists residing in Spain, Delio Rodriguez Ces and Jianxiong Liu, whose participation is made possible through Culture Moves Europe funding. These artists will travel to Serbia to explore and interpret Serbian cultural heritage, creating works that showcase their viewing and understanding of the local tangible and intangible heritage. Their presence underscores the importance of cross-cultural collaboration, building international artist networks, and bridging heritage with modern artistic expression.

Artists are encouraged to explore, reinterpret, or comment on:

• Cultural heritage
• Traditions and customs
• Historical landmarks

Artwork Requirements

• The work must be suitable for wall display.
• Accepted formats include, but are not limited to paintings, graphics, photographs, and tapestries.
• The maximum required dimensions are 1m x 1m

Exhibition information

The exhibition is organised by Društvo Hispanista, UK Parobrod, and independent artists and cultural professionals awarded Culture moves Europe funding.

The exhibition will take place at UK Parobrod, in downtown Belgrade.

Duration: February 21 – March 10, 2025

The exhibition will be dedicated to showcasing the diverse perspectives on the cultural heritage of Serbia and the World through contemporary artwork.

Deadline for applications: February 10, 2025

Submitted materials should include:

• CV/Portfolio – In a single PDF file, up to 5 MB.

Visual and other documentation:

• Images/visual reproduction of the artwork (in JPG or PNG format, total size up to 10 MB, and 300 dpi resolution)
• Artwork Description – A brief description of the artwork the applicant is submitting, up to 500 characters with spaces.

The results of the open call will be available by February 17, 2025.
