Following their first encounter at UK Parobrod in 2025, four musicians from Argentina, Colombia, Russia and Serbia return for a new evening of free improvisation, experimental sound and collective exploration.
Leonel Kaplan is an Argentine trumpet player and improviser based in Belgrade. Active on the international experimental and free improvisation scene since the early 2000s, he has performed and recorded throughout Europe, Latin America and the United States with musicians including John Butcher, Axel Dörner, Michel Doneda, Tatsuya Nakatani, Lê Quan Ninh and Christof Kurzmann. His work has appeared on labels such as Another Timbre, Relative Pitch and ESP-Disk’. His approach to the trumpet focuses on sound, breath, resonance and extended techniques, treating the instrument as a physical source of sound rather than simply a traditional melodic instrument.
María “Mange” Valencia, from Bogotá, Colombia, is a saxophonist, clarinetist, composer and improviser. She has been an active member of Colombia's experimental music community for many years, performing with groups including Meridian Brothers, MULA, Tortuga Alada, VienTox, Asdrubal and Hurakán Orkan. She has participated in international festivals and artist residencies including Périscope and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Her work moves between improvisation, composition and experimental approaches to the saxophone and clarinet. She was also a leading figure behind Bogotá's Distritofónico festival.
Ilia Belorukov, originally from Saint Petersburg and now based in Novi Sad, works across improvised, noise and electroacoustic music. His practice combines alto saxophone, modular synthesis, electronics and other sound sources. He is the founder of the Intonema label and has been involved for many years in organizing concerts and festivals dedicated to experimental and improvised music. His work as a musician, sound engineer, curator and writer has connected him with experimental music scenes across Europe and beyond.
Marina Džukljev, from Novi Sad, is a pianist, educator and active performer in free improvisation, classical, contemporary and applied music. Trained as a classical pianist at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, she later devoted herself to contemporary and improvised music, developing an extensive practice with musicians and artists across Europe. She has released music on labels including Leo Records, FMR, Klopotec and Inexhaustible Editions, and has been a long-standing curator and organizer of improvised music through her work with Improstor and other festivals and concert series.
Four distinct musical languages, four different approaches to sound, and no predetermined outcome.
